Paradigm
Piece: The piece is a political cartoon. It was originally published in a newspaper in 1997 but I found in on blog. It's main point is just a funny young student who blamed not doing his homework on his computer, pens, and pencils all having viruses.
Agent: Randy Glasbergen created it. He is a famous cartoonist. The agent can be contacted via email on his website.
Receiver: Americans are the primary audience as they are the primary receivers of American newspapers. I am technically apart of this audience even though I am not a newspaper reader. As a receiver, I am affected by this because I will be a teacher hopefully in a few years and I too will hear all kinds of crazy stories about why students couldn't complete their homework.
Agenda: I don't see much bias presented in this piece; it is meant to be humorous. If I was attempting to force a perceived bias, it would be that Glasbergen was never a teacher so he can't fully understand how the teacher would actually be reacting in this scenario.
Demands: This piece doesn't demand much besides perhaps a laugh.
Inquiries: I want to know what newspaper it was originally published in since I found it on a blog that then led me to Glasbergen's website. I think his cartoons are funny so I would be interested to know more.
Gains: I did not gain any knowledge or glorious pieces of wisdom for this cartoon but the piece enhanced my life by showing me a cute cartoon.
Motivators: I do not know exactly what motivated him to create the cartoon, maybe he just wanted a fresh take on the old excuse, "my dog ate my homework." This project in English class is what prompted me to find it however.
